Things to do in Dublin

Although Dublin is seen as a smaller city worldwide, we have endless places to explore.

Around every corner is history, art, character and so much more.

However, if you want to capture the true essence of Dublin city you'll find it in The Liberties, Smithfield and Stoneybatter.

We've teamed up with VisitDublin.com to showcase some of the best things this part of the city has to offer.

National Museum Of Ireland at Collins Barracks

The Decorative Arts & History part of the National Museum of Ireland is found in Collins Barracks.

The barracks in itself is an artefact, having housed both British Armed Forces and Irish Army over three centuries.

Here you'll see Ireland's economic, social, political and military history, with objects such as furniture, weaponry and costumes on display.

Guinness Storehouse

The Guinness Storehouse is located in St. James' Gate, which used to be the fermentation plant of the brewery.

On your tour you'll be told the story of Guinness, from its history and culture to ingredients, and learn about the heart and soul of Ireland's most iconic drink.

Finish off with a pint in the Gravity Bar as you take in the 360 degree view of the city.

Dublinia

A lot of Dublin's influence comes from the Viking and Medieval era and at Dublinia you'll learn all about this part of our history.

The immersive tour will make you feel like you've stepped in to medieval times with sights, sounds and smells as you walk in the steps of Vikings.

Take on the 96 steps to the top of the medieval tower to finish your tour with gorgeous views of the city.

Industrial Dublin : Past and Present Trail

The Liberties is right in the heart of 'The Golden Triangle', the Irish distilling and breweries district.

On this self-guided tour you'll learn about all the crafts and enterprises that made the area tick, and visit some of the incredible archaeology still there today.

Visit Carnew Street

Carnew Street has become a must-visit for many 90s girlband fanatics visiting the capital.

The Stoneybatter street was the set for Spice Girls 1998 hit Stop and is the perfect photo-op for any die-hard fans.

It's not the only time the street has appeared on screen, as it was also featured in Angela's Ashes and Michael Collins films.

Teeling Whiskey Distillery

One of the distilleries in Dublin's 'Golden Triangle', Teeling Whiskey Distillery is a must for whiskey lovers.

You'll get to tour the fully operational distillery that produces up to 500,000 litres of spirit each year.

This is followed by a tasting of your choice of Irish whiskey, single malt and vintage reserves.

Dublin's Oldest House

Right in the heart of The Liberties you'll find Dublin's oldest house, which dates back to 1639!

If you didn't know, you could easily walk by this hidden gem which is now home to a barbers called Fades And Blades.

However, look closely and you'll see it has been preserved with original wooden ceiling beams and brickwork.

Marsh's Library

Marsh's Library is another preserved building from the 18th Century and is actually one of the only places in the city still used for it's original purpose.

Ireland's first public library has been visited by the likes of Bram Stoker and James Joyce.

The library has fun activities for all of the family, however they do warn you should watch out for the ghost of the Archbishop!

St. Audoen's Church

The only remaining parish of it's time, St. Audoen's Church is dedicated to the patron saint of Normans.

St. Anne's Chapel is the visitor centre which facilitates free tours and will show you the true beauty of the buildings architecture.

What's left of the old medieval city walls can be also be found just behind it.

The Light House Cinema

One of Dublin's most vibrant cultural spaces, The Light House sits on the edge of Smithfield Square.

Holding the reputation of one of Ireland's best cinemas, you'll find films here that don't often make the mainstream.

The space is designed beautifully and also runs special events and festivals throughout the year.
