UCD have launched Ireland's first ever university-led AI institute.
The centre is the first of it's kind in the country.
It's aim is to empower researchers across disciplines, accelerate scientific discovery and impact regulation.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, James Lawless said it would be a transformative development:
"This institute represents a truly transformative development, establishing a world-class environment where our talented researchers can turn bold ideas into profound discoveries."
The new Institute will be led by a leading global expert in AI research, Professor Robin Burke.
The Professor of Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder said they will research issues of sustainability and AI too:
"We also have an important responsibility as an independent academic institution to examine AI critically — its capabilities, its limitations and its impact."
The launch was unveiled today at the university as 1,000 scientists, policymakers and technology leaders gather for the European AI in Science Summit.
