'It wasn't because I did something bad, it wasn't because something was wrong with me...'

Halsey however, doesn't want people to help the homeless just because they might one day be famous.

'We shouldn't help because we think there's a chance they could turn into a celebrity.'

'We shouldn't help because they could really make something of themselves, because they are something right now.'

One audience member caught the whole speech on camera:

How Halsey shot to fame

Halsey previously opened up to Rolling Stone about her journey to success.

She recalled a time when she had only $9 in her account and chose to spend it on energy drinks to keep her awake overnight.

'It was less dangerous to not sleep than it was to sleep somewhere random and maybe get raped or kidnapped.'

Halsey later found herself invited to a party at a Holiday Inn in Newark.

During the evening, she met a, 'music guy who invited her to his house to maybe do some sort of collaboration.'

'It was the first time I’d ever been in a studio, and by ‘studio’ I mean someone’s basement that had a microphone and recording equipment.'
