A name change could be on the cards for residents in Dublin 6 and Dublin 14.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has passed a motion to rename Orwell Road.

It's the street in Dublin where the Russian Embassy is located and subject to a number of protests.

The motion was proposed by Councillor Peter O'Brien of Labour at a meeting on Wednesday.

The council want to see the road named 'Independent Ukraine Road' in light of the crisis in the country.

It's now up to the residents of Orwell Road whether they'll be in favour of the name change.

The move has been similarly executed in other countries with Russian embassies such as Latvia, Lithuania and Norway.

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council will propose the change by consultation with local residents.

Earlier this week, a lorry driver drove into the Russian Embassy gates in a staged protest.
