Dublin Rents Hit Record High Of Over €1,900 A Month

The cost of renting is now higher than it has ever been.

A new DAFT.ie report shows in the last year alone, the average rental price has risen nationally by 12.4%.

Renting a home in Ireland will now cost you an average of €1,300 with the average Dublin  rent now more than €1,900 a month.

Limerick and Waterford saw rental prices rise by 20% in the 12 months to the end of June.

All parts of the country are now €274 higher than they were at the height of the Celtic Tiger.

Average rents, and year-on-year change, Q2 2018

  • Limerick: €1,109, up 20.7%
  • Waterford: €921, up 19.3%
  • Galway: €1,189, up 15.9%
  • Dublin: €1,936, up 13.4%
  • Cork: €1,266, up 12.8%
  • Rest of the country: €909, up 10.4%

Economist Ronan Lyons, author of the Daft report, says rents will continue to rise, "It's a national market now that is starved for supply and it's not improving.

"On the sale side, we're starting to see some extra supply come on stream. On the rental side, there's still no sign yet of any improvement in availability."
