Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding has died aged 39 after a fierce fight with breast cancer.

The 39 year old was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer last August and underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

A post on Sarah's Instagram by her mother Marie confirmed the news saying "she was a bright shining star and I hope that's how she can be remembered."

Sarah went public with her cancer diagnosis last year, saying she hoped she could help others.

Sarah rose to prominence almost 20 years ago on ITV's Popstars: The Rivals, where the group was formed alongside alongside Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh.
