Iarnród Éireann has announced that the first major infrastructure enabling works on the DART+ West project will begin this weekend.
Track lowering works will take place at two bridges between Hansfield and M3 Parkway to facilitate the future electrification of the line.
Works will commence after the last service on Friday the 30th of October and will continue until the first service on Monday the 2nd of November.
As a result, there will be no rail services between Clonsilla and M3 Parkway Stations on Saturday and Sunday.
Bus transfers will be in place between Clonsilla and Hansfield, Dunboyne and M3 Parkway Stations, to a revised schedule.
Lowering the tracks will allow for the new overheard power lines required to operate the DART+ Fleet to be installed later without the need to modify the height of the existing road bridges over the railway.
Once fully completed the DART+ West project will increase train capacity from the current 6 trains per hour per direction up to 12 trains per hour per direction, subject to demand.
Passenger capacity will also increase from 5,000 in 2019 to 13,200 passengers.
Also included in the plans is a new station at Spencer Dock, a new DART depot facility west of Kilcock Station, and the closure of six level crossings.
