The National Broadband plan has suffered another setback as it's understood that SSE are the latest company to pull out of the tendering process.

It's after reports that SSE has withdrawn from the tendering process, after Eir, Vodafone and the ESB already pulled out.

It will affect 540,000 homeowners and businesses across rural Ireland who've been waiting for the project since 2012.

Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Communications Timmy Dooley believes private companies are not in it for the benefit of Ireland:

"It seems to me that these big companies who invest in less risky ventures have decided at this stage that its not in their interest."
