Fears That Children Are Missing Out On Nature Activities

There are fears that children will forget how to climb trees because they're spending to much time looking at screens.

Veteran wildlife broadcaster David Attenborough has highlighted the issue, saying strict health and safety rules are also preventing children from getting to know the natural world. 

The Irish Girl Guides are among a number of groups trying to encourage young people to get outdoors.

Spokesperson Fiona Murdoch says they use the Leave No Trace principles:

"Take nothing but photos leave nothing but footprints are leaders are trained in the safety of taking children outdoors so they are encouraged to observe and draw pictures or take photos of what they find but obviously their not going to be collecting birds eggs and doing illegal things like that."
