Say it ain't so. Another public holiday might be added to this year's calendar.

The government are at advanced stages in creating another bank holiday this year.

It's seen as part of a 'pandemic bonus' of sorts, and could come as early as the end of the year.

The plans are for the bank holiday to either be held this year or in early 2022.

The day will likely held in tribute to the efforts of frontline workers and those who died from Covid-19.

There have been discussions around rewarding frontline workers even further.

Talks are ongoing regarding a bonus for those on the frontline, or even extra leave.

Gardaí and healthcare unions have lobbied the government for bonuses for their members.
