Body Recovered From Rescue 116 Off Mayo Coast

Gardaí have confirmed that the body that was recovered this morning was that of Capt. Mark Duffy. 

 

Update 15:04 

The body of a crew member that was recovered from the wreckage of the Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 11, has been brought ashore. 

Navy divers escorted the crewman's body to the pier in Blacksod.

The remains were recovered from the cockpit of the helicopter, which currently lies 40 meters below sea level off the island of Blackrock. 

The search is now continuing for the two other members of the Irish Coast Guard crew.

Breaking 

A body has been removed from Rescue 116 off the Coast of Mayo.

The remains are being returned to shore by the LE Samuel Beckett this afternoon.

The crewman's family has been informed and formal identification is expected to take place shortly.

The helicopter remains on the ocean floor 40 metres below sea level.

The search is continuing for two other members of the coast guard crew.
