80 students are under suspicion of cheating on the Leaving Cert.

43 have had their results permanently withheld by the State Examinations Commission (SEC).

While 37 are being retained pending further investigation and communication with the schools involved.

According to the SEC, cases usually come to light if an examiner suspects copying in the same centre, or if they find notes or electronic devices brought in by a student.

A supervisor at previous Leaving Cert exams says every precaution is taken to ensure there's no suspicious activity:

"Before the exams started you just need to have a quick double check of the toilet itself and see if there's any notes or anything hidden in the cistern or anything at all that could be used for someone cheating so you know notes shoved up in the toilet roll or things like that."
