An Irish company says it plans to introduce shared e-bike schemes in towns and cities across Ireland.

Zipp Mobility today launched a pilot in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area of Dublin.

A new shared e-bike scheme has been launched in south Dublin.

Zipp Mobility, which already operates e-scooters in the UK and Poland, is running the pilot scheme in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area.

There will be 50 e-bikes available to rent from today with plans to take the operation national in the near future.

The services can be accessed by downloading the Zipp Mobility app which requires users to create an account and then scan the e-bike to take their journey.

Parking zones and bike stands are set up to allow the user to pick and drop off from designated zones.

Plans are already in the works for expansion to Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kildare and Waterford which is contingent on the Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021 is passed into law.
