The world woke up to the devastating news that legendary physicist Stephen Hawking passed away.
He died at the age of 76. At the age of 22, he was given just a few years to live, after he was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neuron disease.
Stephen was very popular among pop culture and made appearances in The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory.
Celebrities have been paying their respects on social media, and remembering in particular, his amazing sense of humour.
No one really dies, Prof. Hawkins. The universe wastes nothing. #StephenHawking pic.twitter.com/xKtKWp2qvc

I feel that beneath it all, we each have that subconscious reassurance that those great figures in our lives will somehow tick on, guide us, and be immortal. They’re the fibres of our society. Gutted about #StephenHawking passing. We have truly lost someone special.

Rest in peace Stephen Hawking. A brilliant mind and a fascinating outlook on life. One in a million. My thoughts are with his family. #StephenHawking

Stephen Hawking voiced himself on The Simpsons nearly a dozen times. After once making a bold scientific statement, Homer backed him up, saying “Larry Flynt is right!” Apparently, both Hawking and Flynt have gone on the record saying they found this incredibly funny. pic.twitter.com/Eus69emZfM
