The Impact Of Racism

Speak Up on SPIN is a brand new content series that aims to tackle important issues that exist in Irish society.

Our first topic is racism and each week we'll bring you a new informative video.

This week we're learning about the impact that racism can have.

Racism can be deeply damaging to a person’s mental health.

Victims of it can feel dehumanised and isolated.

It can affect people’s feeling of safety and can cause them to have a skewed perception of themselves.

Imagine being afraid of walking through town alone? Imagine suffering with constant anxiety?

To be mistreated because of your heritage, religion or skin colour can and will damage your self-worth over time.

Racism is detrimental on a personal level, but it can also tear apart communities on a large scale too.

A hate crime or racist incident effects more than just an individual, it effects their friends, their family and their community.

If one person is stigmatised everyone in their life risks feeling stigmatised too.
