The smell of sun cream could soon be in the air, because a mini heat-wave is on the way!

Temperatures are set to hit 18 degrees in some parts of the country today, with the warm spell continuing into the weekend.

Met Eireann's Pat Clarke says the current weather is bucking the trend "Temperatures will be well above normal for this time of year. They're usually down 10, 11 or 12 degrees. Today temperatures across the country will be more typically in the mid-teens and in sunshine they might get up to 17 or 18 degrees."

Here's the forecast for today:

Some sunny spells this afternoon. Top temperatures 15 to 18 degrees, in fresh southeast winds, with the highest values inland.

Thursday will start out cloudy and misty, with some patches of drizzle and fog. It will become brighter by afternoon, with some hazy sunshine developing. Top temperatures 14 to 18 degrees. Winds light variable or southerly.

It's hard to believe that just a month ago most of the country was covered in a blanket of snow!

A bill could be on the way that would force all work places to close during future red weather alerts.

It will be brought before the Dail tomorrow, and would ensure that workers aren't penalised for staying at home during extreme weather.

So that could bring an end to sitting at home and cursing the snow!
