A Status Yellow Rainfall warning is in place for the western half of the country until tomorrow morning, with Met Eireann saying up to 60mm could fall in places.

Met Eireann said they expect heavy and persistent rain to last until Friday morning, with higher volumes of rain in mountainous areas.

In a tweet, they described the coming weekend as a "Howling Halloween"

Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, says the bad weather will continue for a number of days with further weather warnings expected.

He says the flooding could be a particular issue in Cork once again.

"There is a possibility of some significant flooding in Cork."

He says high tides on Saturday morning and evening could be a concern for Cork City and Bantry.

Win Warning In Place For The West

Meanwhile, in the west a status yellow wind warning is in place of Galway and Mayo.

Strong southwest winds today will lead to mean speeds of 55km per hour and gusts of 100km per hour.

The wind warning will remain in place until Thursday at 4pm.
