Motorists in Australia will soon be able to personalise their licence plates with emojis.

From March 1st, drivers in the state of Queensland can decorate their cars with a choice of five emojis.

The choices are - laugh out loud, wink, sunglasses, heart eyes or smile - and will cost over €300.

Rebecca Michael - who is spokesman for the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland - told Seven Network, "you can support your favorite team or your favorite town with a symbol on your number plate and using an emoji is no different."

However, there has been opposition to the idea of personalised plates.

Russell Williamson posted on the networks Facebook page that "most people will need the angry face."
