Covid-19: 14 Additional Deaths And 359 New Cases

The Department of Health has confirmed 14 additional death linked to Covid-19.

Three deaths occurred this month, 10 in February while one person died in November.

As of midnight last night, there have been 359 confirmed new cases of the virus.

Of today's cases, 66%  are under 45 years of age.

The median age is 34 years old.

Most of today's cases were identified in Dublin, where there are 159 new cases.

Elsewhere, there are 24 new cases in Westmeath, 21 in Louth, 21 in Galway and 19 in Meath.

The remaining 114 cases are spread across all other counties.

Meanwhile, there have been 28 additional hospitalisations in the past twenty-four hours.

In total, there are 498 Covid-19 patients in hospitals - 116 of whom are in intensive care.

The 14 Day incident rate is 201.2 per 100,000 population.

As of Saturday, 141,345 people have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

294,550 have been administered their first shot.

Number Of Covid-19 Cases Rise Globally

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn says Ireland's latest figures show "good progress" here.

But he warns the virus is still growing internationally.

"Globally, in the past week, the number of cases of Covid-19 has increased for the first time in 7 weeks."

"We must not allow this virus the opportunity to do the same here."

Dr Glynn appealed to the public to stick to public health advice to "protect and build on the progress we have made over the last 2 months".
