The Forever Purge

The latest installment in The Purge franchise, The Forever Purge, arrives later this week.

Ahead of it's release, SPIN's Sarina Bellissimo caught up with actress Ana De La Reguera and creator James De Monaco for a chat.

The annual purge is back, but this time it's more intense than ever before.

A sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end in The Forever Purge.

This movie follows the record-shattering success of 2018’s The First Purge.

Members of an underground movement are no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder.

So they decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre.

Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and her husband Juan (Tenoch Huerta) live in Texas, where he's working for the wealthy Tucker family.

Juan impresses the Tucker patriarch, Caleb (Will Patton), but that fuels the jealous anger of Caleb’s son, Dylan (Josh Lucas).

On the morning after The Purge, a masked gang of killers attacks the Tucker family.

Both families must band together and fight back as the country spirals into chaos and the United States begins to disintegrate around them.

Ana De La Reguera

Sarina told Ana that the movie made her feel sick and anxious so she wanted to know how Ana felt when she read the script.

She admitted she liked it, and pointed out that she was reading it, "from another perspective."

"I was like, 'Oh, this is what I'm going to do.'"

The SPIN presenter asked how she feels about all these amazing achievements.

"Through this career there's ups and downs," Ana replied, "there were moments when I wasn't sure if I made the right decision."

"That I wasn't getting the jobs that I wanted... and right now I just feel very grateful."

"Happy that things are happening, that I have constant work, that I'm getting offers, that I'm out there, that I'm talking to you."

"It was worth it. It was worth all these years, and I feel happy with what's happening to me in my personal life and my career."

James De Monaco

Sarina also spoke to creator James D Monaco about the importance of cinema.

"I think the means of transport that is the theatre... it's like a rocket ship to another place."

"We can't replicate that at home because there's a phone, there's door bells, there's knocking..."

"And it's the effort of going to the cinema that's as important as watching the movie."

"Because you're making an effort, you're going to see something... it's an occasion."

"That makes the transport into this adventure, into this other world so much more immersive than it ever could be at home."

Sarina told James he made her feel sick and anxious with this movie and she wants to know why he did this to her.

He laughed, "[That] hopefully means it's good horror!"

James believes what makes it so terrifying is the concept of people going against the law and refusing to end this terrifying night.

The Forever Purge drops in cinemas July 16th.
