Lashana Lynch on coping with backlash

No Time To Die's Lashana Lynch has made history by becoming the first black woman to take on a 00 title in a Bond film.

Her casting announcement sparked outrage among Bond fans and Lashana faced serious backlash as a result.

In a new interview with SPIN's Sarina Bellissimo, she shared how she coped with the criticism.

Lashana began by saying she has, "multiple ways," of dealing with negative comments.

She said, "Firstly, you're just having a nice Sunday evening with your family and suddenly you're in the press."

"And you're like, 'Oh, what could they be talking about? I'm at work, I'm you know, minding my own business.'"

"So that's a bit of a shock at the beginning but I've got a really grounded circle around me."

"I've got a good family, my friends are very normal. Very jovial. And whenever I have any problems in life, I'm able to fall on them."

Lashana said knowing she could, at any moment, "run to [her] circle for refuge," is one of the things that got her through it."

The actress also, "took some time away," and got, "really disciplined with [her] phone."

"Not just social media or the internet, I was able to make real boundaries with my phone," she said.

"Make real boundaries with my searches and really teach people how to treat me."

"It's actually nothing to do with me"

Lashana soon came to the realisation that, "it's actually nothing to do with [her]."

She explained, "It's people's opinions, it's their truth as much as it's my truth that I'm in this film."

The 33-year-old recognised how popular the franchise is, and admitted it would be, "naïve," of her not to think there would be so many opinions.

Lashana added, "I'm just glad that there's a conversation happening that actually reminds us of where we are in the world."

"And also where we should be striving towards."
