Coronation Street fans were stunned yesterday morning after rumours emerged that legendary actor Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, had died.
However, it was all a cruel hoax and the articles on social media that suggested the 85 year old had died were completely untrue.
A fanpage of the soap was quick to react to the news:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">There's fake news doing the social media rounds today saying that Bill Roache has passed away. It is FAKE NEWS, ITV have confirmed to us today. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Corrie?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Corrie</a></p>— Coronation Street Blog (@CoroStreetBlog) <a href="https://twitter.com/CoroStreetBlog/status/986629368591060992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 18, 2018</a></blockquote>

This latest example of 'fake news' comes only three months after the same US news site incorrectly reported that Malcolm Heden (who plays Norris in Corrie) had died.
