The return of the X Factor has been rocked by shock 'fix' claims.

While thousands of people audition for the show, it has been reported that the majority of the acts who are successful and make it to judge's houses are actually picked by bosses of the show.

According to the Daily Star, a source has claimed that two thirds of this year's hopefuls to make it to the stage were actually scouted for the show.

A separate insider insists that 'every successful act' in this year's judge's houses were sought out and asked to apply.

A source close to the show is said to have claimed 'The whole point of X Factor is that it gives anyone the chance to make it. But this series, it’s like only ones cherry-picked by the show have got to judges’ houses. It will feel to some like the process is fixed in favour of the ones picked out by staff.'

A spokesperson for the show has addressed the allegations, saying to OK! Online 'It’s no secret, like many other TV talent shows, we approach people to make them aware of the auditions. Anyone who applies goes through the exact same process. All auditions are judged on the performance on the day.'

The X Factor continues Sunday at 8pm on TV3.
