Matthew McConaughey becomes a university professor

Ever wondered what it would be like to have Matthew McConaughey as your mentor?

Well the students at the University of Texas at Austin's Moody's College of Communication have been granted that wish.

The actor has become a professor in the department of 'Radio-Television-Film' at the college.

According to E! News, Matthew will work as the 'Script to Screen' instructor.

In fairness, this isn't a complete shock considering he signed on as a co-teacher in 2015.

Kathleen Mabley is the 'Director of Marketing and Communications' for the Moody College of Communications.

She explains his new role, 'He'll still teach the same class, 'Script to Screen'...'

'But now as an official employee he has the ability to also mentor students...'

'Explore teaching other classes and participate in all of the University events.'

She also answers the lingering question, 'how does he have time for this new role?'

Kathleen explains, 'The frequency that he'll attend the 'Script to Screen' course this fall all still just depends on his schedule.'

The school's reaction to the news

Chair of the department of 'Radio-Television-Film', Noah Isenberg says they can't wait to welcome him on board.

'As you can imagine, there's genuine excitement among the students, faculty and staff.'

'McConaughey has taken his teaching in the department of 'Radio-Television-Film' very seriously over the years...'

'And he brings a level of professional experience and accomplishment that is quite rare.'

'The official title 'Professor of Practice' is a way to recognise those achievements...'

'And to express a continued commitment from both sides.'

Matthew comments on the news

The actor attended the college in 1993 where he earned his degree in film.

In an interview with UT News he says of his new position, 'It's the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school.'

'Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them.'

'Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art—no matter the time or generation.'

'The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless.'

He concludes, 'That will always be our classroom focus.'

We'll take the next flight to Austin, Texas please.
