The RSA says it's aware of a number of third-party apps offering learners driving test cancellations.
Internet bots are now being used to search the RSA website to find cancellation slots and sell them to people on the waiting list.
The authority says it's working to ensure the sites are restricted, and hopes to limit their access to the portal.
Around 81,000 people are on the list for a test, with the average wait time at almost 27 weeks.
Brenda Bolger, from Bolger School of Motoring, says people are paying a lot of money to try skip the queue:
"I have heard some people stating up to €100 to use this service. There are some people online who are saying that it works and there are some people who are saying it's an absolute scam."
She continued, "But people do need to be careful, because you're giving out all of your private information to a complete stranger online. I think the RSA themselves have warned about that as well."
