85 per cent of parents say their older children heavily rely on the Taxi of Mam and Dad.

Most parents spend between one and five hours per week driving their 16-24-year-old children around, with 39 per cent spending six hours or more.

The most common reasons parents drive their older children around are for socialising, extra-curricular activities and to school.

The survey found that 40 per cent of parents like spending time with their children when travelling.

Chief Commercial Officer with Bus Eireann Expressway Eleanor Farrell says there are more reasons for young people to use public transport now than ever.

"Last year the government introduced reductions in half-priced fares in with student and young adult leap cars".

"There's a huge opportunity for these children to get their freedom and move away from the taxi of Mum and Dad".
