The eviction ban for renters looks set to end on March 31st, as the government is on course to win a Dáil vote this afternoon on the issue.

It appears an agreement between the coalition, and the Regional Independent Group, has secured enough support to end the moratorium.

A vote on a Sinn Fein motion to extend the ban will take place later today.

Last night, the Dáil was told nearly 400 homeless people have died on the streets of Dublin over the past 5 years.

Aontú leader, Peadar Tóbín, disclosed the number during the Sinn Féin extension motion.

People Before Profit's, Richard Boyd Barrett, said the ban's removal will lead to an avalanche of homelessness.

The TD for Dún Laoghaire said "people have no choice now, but to get out on the streets."

The Housing Minister has said the decision to end the ban was not taken lightly.

Darragh O'Brien says the winter moratorium was introduced to "mitigate pressures faced by people over the winter period."

He added this was done, despite a cost-of-living crisis.
