A ban on the sale of e-cigarettes for under 18s has been approved by cabinet.

New proposals will see the sale of vaping devices banned for under 18s, with legislation expected to be passed next year.

The sale of vapes will also be removed from self-service machines and mobile premises, such as tents at festivals.

In addition, advertisements for e-cigarettes will be prohibited on public transport, in cinemas and near schools.

The bill was brought forward by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and Public Health Minister Frank Feighan.

It's currently being drafted and is expected to be published by the end of the year.

It'll form part of the Public Health (Tobacco and Nicotine Inhaling Products) Bill.

Shops or outlets in breach of the regulations will be suspended from trading or issued fixed penalty notices.
