Traffic Volumes Up By A Third Since Restrictions Ease

Traffic volumes across the country have jumped by around a third.

That's since Coronavirus restrictions were eased on Monday.

According to the AA the number of vehicles on our roads has risen by 42%.

 

More People Are Driving Into Cities As Restrictions Ease

Conor Faughnan, AA spokesperson, says it's happening across the country.

"The M50, the N7 in Kildare, the M4 in Kildare, the M11 in Wicklow."

"Those have seen significant volume increases."

"Limerick volumes feeding in are up around 30%."

"While in Cork on the N40 those volumes are up around 28%"

National Slow Down Day Today

Meanwhile today is National Slow Down Day.

Gardaí have so far detected 349 drivers speeding,

Members of the force have been checking vehicles since 7am, they've so far analysed 44,000.

They clocked a person in County Tipperary driving almost twice the limit.

In the mean time someone else was caught doing 128km/h in a 100 zone in Mullingar
