Ticket touting ban expected at end of the month

A ban on ticket touting will become law by the end of the month.

The ban means re-selling tickets for concerts or sports matches above face value won't be allowed.

It was first proposed by now-Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and former Fine Gael TD Noel Rock back in 2017.

There will be exemptions for sports clubs and charities that are looking to raffle tickets as part of a fundraiser.

"Anyone going down to Croke Park and [are going] down the Jones' Road [would see] someone trying to sell tickets," says junior minister Robert Troy.

"There is very genuine people who will sell the ticket to a sporting fan at face value - that will still be permissible," he added.

Anybody caught faces a fine of up to €100,000 or two years in prison.
