15 counties will be affected by a rainfall and thunderstorm warning later today.

The status yellow alert covers all of Leinster, along with Cavan, Monaghan, and Tipperary.

It will run from 2 o'clock this afternoon until 10 o'clock tonight.

Met Eireann's warning of heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms, and localised flooding.

Forecaster Evelyn Cusack says you should take an umbrella with you if you're heading out today:

"So really it's a dull misty start in many places today."

"Especially over Leinster, there'll be heavy showers today and tonight with a risk of thunderstorms."

"But then it's really good weather [to follow]."

The Good Weather Is Coming Though!

Temperatures could reach the high 20s later this week, according to Met Eireann.

The forecaster is predicting warm temperatures from Wednesday, reaching 25 degrees on Friday, and continuing to be very warm for the weekend.

Forecaster Evelyn Cusack says this week will start off wet, but will certainly improve:

"Well after a fairly dismal weekend in some places, there's some good news for this week."

"It's going to turn into an overall dry, warm, and sunny week."

"Indeed next weekend will be very warm with temperatures in the middle to high 20s."
