Three Now Dead After Storm Ophelia

Three people have now been killed as Storm Ophelia continues to batter the country. The accidents occurred in Louth, Tipperary and Waterford.

A man in County Louth died when a falling tree struck his car in Ravensdale, north of Dundalk. The alarm was raised at around 2:45pm today and a recovery operation is underway. It's not yet known if there are any other occupants in the car.

In County Tipperary, a man in his early 30s was killed in a chainsaw accident while trying to clear a fallen tree. His body has been removed to Clonmel Hospital. The incident happened at Ballybrado in Cahir at approximately 12:30pm today.

The first casualty happened at around 11:40am when a woman in her 50s was killed after the car she was driving was struck by a falling tree. The collision happened outside Aglish village in Waterford on the R671.

A female passenger in her mid 70s was injured and has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital with non life threatening injuries. 

Gardaí are urging all road users to remain indoors and not to travel unless your journey is absolutely necessary. 

They're also asking everyone to stay indoors and not to venture out. Do not put your life or the lives of the Emergency Services at risk by travelling unless it's absolutely necessary.
