The 'Up the Dubs' banner that fly's over the Liffey on the Ha'penny bridge has been put into permanent storage.

The flag that is erected on both sides of the Ha'penny bridge caused controversy in April when it was left up for over a week after the Allianz League win over Galway.

The flag has become a ritual for many Dublin supporters since they won the All-Ireland against Kerry in 2011. Usually, the flag is taken down the following day, however, in April after an extended stay the blue banner caused complaints by members of the public and the Dublin Civic Trust.

It's emerged it breaches planning laws because it detracts from the character of the 200-year-old bridge.
