TD Says New Sex Ed For Catholic Primary Schools May Be Harmful

A new sex education programme developed by Bishops for Catholic primary schools has been released.

It says, sexual love belongs within a committed relationship and marriage is a sacrament of commitment.

They've called it Flourish.

It's for children from junior infants to sixth class, says sex and puberty are a "gift from god".

When discussing LGBT issues:

So it advises the teaching in relation to marriage between a man and a woman "cannot be omitted”.

Labelling LGBT Relationships "Different" Could Be Harmful

Mick Barry, Solidarity TD, says the programme should be impartial:

"Different types of gender, contraception, abortion and above all the question of consent."

He says, "if you want to challenge the porn-ification of sex and society, then objective sexual education is what you need."
