Tayto Park has responded to recent media coverage of the mortality rates of animals at the Park, which it believes was out of context.

In a statement, the Park says the figures are not related to any shortcomings in their care and was upsetting for their zookeepers, veterinarians and zoo managers.

It was revealed that 30 animals passed away in 2016 - that's nearly 8% of the site's population.

They believe those figures fail to take into account "natural lifespan, age, biology when considering the death of an animal.".

The animals that died included a bald eagle, a meerkat and three pot-bellied Pigs who were named 'Toot', 'Puddle' and 'Pumbaa'.
