It follows the government's move towards encouraging rapid testing.

The Taoiseach says he would support making antigen tests more affordable.

A number of new measures are being discussed to tackle the the high rates of Covid-19.

The cabinet sub-committee meets later today to discuss these measures.

It's expected there'll be an expanded use of covid certs, with a work-from-home message also on the agenda.

The news comes amid growing pressure on the health service in recent weeks.

617 patients are currently in hospital with the virus and 117 are in ICU.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin says reducing the cost of antigen tests will be important.

Many have used the rapid testing method regularly after lockdown restrictions were eased in October.

The news also comes as Dublin club Pygmalion announced they'll carry out antigen testing for ticket holders.

A negative test will result in a refund for the nightclub goer. The promoters said it's a safer alternative for their staff and for guests.
