It happened over the long bank holiday weekend.

A Dublin student has described how he received homophobic abuse on a bus last week.

Dean O'Reilly, who's involved with DCU Student's Union, spoke out about the incident.

"He kept trying to put his arm around me, he kept trying to touch my hair," Dean said.

"I could hear his friends behind me, that they were laughing and they were recording what was going on as well."

"They were egging him on, telling him to do more things to bother me."

In a Twitter thread, Dean spoke about the incident in detail and how he was harassed.

Dean says he doesn't think the group will be held accountable for their actions.

"A lot of people may think this was just something that happens," he said.

"Because someone was too drunk, 'aw they're not really that bad.'"

"'Ah, they're not homophobic, it's just a bad incident. That's really not the case."

He also spoke to Newstalk at length today about the incident which you can listen back here.
