Met Éireann has issued a status Orange warning for 13 counties with gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour expected as Storm Callum hits tonight.

The storm is now being treated as a threat to life.

Callum is expected to make landfall in Cork and Kerry at around 10pm.

Western counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare and eastern counties Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath and Waterford will be affected from midnight on.

We're being advised to take extreme care overnight and during the morning commutes to work and school with the very likely risk of fallen trees and branches on roads around the country.

There's also a warning to tie down any loose garden items like trampolines, swings and bins as soon as possible before the storm hits.

We're also being reminded to keep our pets indoors tonight to keep them safe. Here's some tips.
