After more than a week of speculation Stoke City have appointed a new manager...finally.

Paul Lambert will be the man to take the reigns at the Potters.

The former Norwich, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has been appointed on a 2 and half year deal and will take charge from Tuesday.

Last week, it looked to be a two horse race for the position, with Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill, and Quique Sánchez Flores the favourites to land the gig.

The Espanyol manager announced on Saturday morning that he would be staying put in Spain, which reignited the rumours surrounding O'Neill's future.

However, the Derry man confirmed he would not be going to Stoke yesterday.

Ireland fans will now be interested to see whether he puts pen to paper on a contract to stay on as national team manager, as we've seen just how weak a verbal contract is in the past few days.
