Flights delayed at Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport has re-opened, but delays are expected throughout the day.

It's after a main-wheel well of a plane carrying US military caught fire this morning and suspended operations.

A number of flights have also been cancelled and passengers are advised to contact their airlines for flight updates.

Shortly after 6:30am this morning, Shannon Airport tweeted that all flights had been temporarily suspended.

Firstly a Boeing 767 aircraft was evacuated on the runway following a reported fire in a main-wheel well.

All passengers and crew were safely taken off the plane while emergency services dealt with the issue.

The plane - which was carrying US military - rejected to take off, and the wheels had to be replaced.
