Good News Sea Swimmers, Our Water Quality Is On The Rise

It follows a study by the Environmental Protection Agency. 

The latest EPA report is good news for sea swimmers and those that enjoy the water.

97 per cent of bathing waters either met or exceeded minimum standards.

That's out of 148 identified bathing spots across the country.

115 of these were deemed to be of 'excellent' quality, which is an increase of 4 from 2020.

However, there were two bathing waters deemed to be below standard or 'poor'.

These were Front Strand Beach in Balbriggan, Dublin, and Lady's Bay in Buncrana, Donegal.

The EPA says urban waste water and dog fouling impacted the water quality in most areas.

They are calling on Irish Water to improve the operation and maintenance of treatment plants and networks.
