People who have recovered from Covid will have to apply for their Digital Covid Cert.

Those who are vaccinated are automatically being sent the document, which will allow entry for indoor dining.

But Liz Canavan from the Taoiseach's office says patients who have recovered must request it:

"In relation to recovery certificates."

"We're going to operate on a pull basis."

"So you are going to have to request them."

"What we're saying is, that service will be available from a fully functioning call centre which will be set up from the 19th."

"So we will not be able to take those requests in advance of that."

You Can Load The Cert Onto Your App

A senior official says the government will not track people who use the digital Covid cert through the contact tracing app.

They're going to upgrade it next week, to allow storing and displaying the EU Digital Covid Cert.

Users can then open that for indoor dining and international travel.

Government chief information officer Barry Lowry says using the app will offer more convenience:

"We all know that people now will download their boarding passes to their phones for example."

So it's just something that people like to do."

"But when they choose to do that, the Government doesn't know they've done it."

"It doesn't know or it doesn't track which airports they've used it at or whatever."

He concludes, "it's all de-centralised."
