One of the biggest Penneys in Ireland has opened it’s doors in Tallaght in Dublin.

The Taoiseach Micheál Martin cut the ribbon on the 10 million euro shop at The Square shopping centre.

Locals Delighted

Locals here at the Square in Tallaght, that opened back in 1990, says they’ve been hoping a Penneys would open for years.

300 jobs have been created at the new store, that is the first to open in Dublin for six years.

It’s part of a 250 million euro investment in Ireland by the company, planned for over the next decade.

Spin asked Damien O’Neill, head of Penneys in Ireland, why it’s taken so long for the fashion giant to open in Tallaght;

"Finding the space!"

"We've got 43,000 square feet of sales floor space to showcase our amazing ranges."

"We just couldn't get the space before."

And also asked shoppers what’s in their baskets:

One woman said, "boots, socks, dresses, tights, jumpers, bottoms for the kids."

It’s Ireland’s 37th Penneys – and 408th globally.
