Fianna Fáil TD Darragh O'Brien has said he knows €600,000 isn't an affordable price for a home.

A set of new properties are being built at Poolbeg in Dublin by the Ronan Real Estate Group.

It's on the land of the old Irish Glass Bottle site, which the property developer says 1,000 of the homes will be social and affordable.

Speaking on the issue, O'Brien said the government have "shown now that we're going to have a national affordable housing scheme."

He said the private development was different from their "council built and council backed schemes."

"We're going to actually make homes more affordable, but that was never envisaged to be to the tune of €600,000."

Many young people have vented their frustration at being outpriced for a first time buyer.
