NPHET Won't Change It's Advice On Indoor Dining "Anytime Soon"

The Taoiseach says NPHET will not change its advice on indoor dining "anytime soon".

Indoor dining in pubs and restaurants was due to return today.

However, the Government pushed it back due to fears over the Delta variant.

Industry representatives, who met with the government today, are pushing for a return as soon as possible.

The group will meet again on Thursday.

Michael Martin says the challenge is now to come up with a reopening plan.

Well, NPHET are very clear and they've given their public health advice.

So NPHET isn't going to change that advice on indoor dining or hospitality any time soon.

It gave advice in respect of the Delta variant and how fast it's spreading.

Then it's up to the Government to deal with the different sectors of the economy.

WHO Warns "We Can't Wish Covid Away"

The World Health Organisation's Special Envoy on Covid 19 is David Nabarro.

He acknowledges the huge impact the virus has had on the hospitality sector:

"It's urgent to get it back, I'm really really hopeful that we can come out with something that works quickly."

"My only recommendation to everyone is to remember that the virus hasn't gone away."

"We can't wish it away."
