NPHET is encouraging people to cut the number of social contacts.

It says socialisation is at it's highest level since the pandemic began.

The Department of Health has reported 56 new deaths related to Covid-19 in the past seven days.

It's also detected 3,174 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.

Latest figures show theres 460 people in hospital with Covid and 86 in ICU.

No Lockdown Under Consideration

Dr Tony Holohan doesn't believe more restrictions are currently needed:

He says we need to improve "our collective adherence," and managing social contacts.

So that's as well as considering and improving the environments we spend our time in.

Finally, Dr. Holohan says:

"We're not giving contemplation at this point in time to additional and wider measures."

Boosters Are Helping

Professor Philip Nolan from NPHET says there's been a smaller increase in cases among those aged over 85 compared to other cohorts.

So he says it's likely due to the booster vaccine:

"It's highly likely that this is due to, at least in part, but probably mostly, due to the impact of the recent third dose vaccination."

"The third dose vaccination."
