A senior Government official has asked the public to avoid performing mouth to mouth during CPR.

Government has issued advice against placing your ear close to the person's mouth.

This is a common reaction by first responders, to listen for breathing.

So if someone collapses in public call 999 or 112 immediately.

Government Official Elizabeth Canavan explains what to do if you're afraid the victim might have Covid-19.

"Perform chest compressions only. Do not give mouth to mouth rescue breaths."

"Do look for signs of breathing and signs of life."

"But don't listen or feel for breathing by placing your ear or cheek next to the person's cheek."
