Language Barrier Made It Difficult For Neighbours

A neighbour describes yesterday’s scene at Ashfield Park:

"Adults screaming."

"A very unusual sound, but ya did know what was going on."

"But because of the language barrier, it was so bad."

She saw adults screaming in a different language.

While a woman making stabbing motions to try and explain what had happened.

A teenager happened to be walking by and told the woman they were speaking Romanian.

Then translated that they needed the emergency services.

"A 13 or 14 year old came along who spoke the language."

"Then they explained what the people were screaming about."

"We rang the police, the wanted an ambulance and the police here because there'd been a stabbing."

A man in his 40s died in the stabbing while a man and woman in their 20s are in hospital with serious injuries.

A toddler was also in the house at the time but wasn’t hurt.

Gardai say a post mortem on the man who died will direct the course of their investigation.

However, for now they are not looking for anyone else as part of their inquiries.
