After a chaotic few days courtesy of Storm Emma and the Beast from the East, the country is finally returning to normality.

Here's all you need to know this Monday afternoon:

FORECAST

It will be mostly cloudy for the remainder of the day with patches of light rain. Snow-melt will continue, leading to an accumulation of surface water and the ongoing risk of flooding.

Tonight will bring a mix of cloud and clear spells with just a few showers. Cold with frost and ice forming in parts as temperatures dip to between -2 and +1 Celsius.

THE THAW

Some rivers have risen by more than a metre in the past 24 hours because of melting snow.

The National Emergency Coordination Group have warned of freezing temperatures tonight.

A major thaw is expected nationwide by midweek.

TRANSPORT

Most bus, train and Luas services are back in operation today.

Changes and delays are still expected, and customers have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Irish Rail said a full service on all Dart, Intercity and Commuter routes in the capital.

Dublin Bus services are operating today, with some changes and diversions in place

Both the Green and Red Luas lines are running.

SCHOOLS

A number of schools across the country remain closed today but are expecting to reopen their doors as soon as possible.

Rural schools in the countryside have been badly hit by the weather and they are most at risk of a delayed return.

In a statement, the Department of Education said:

"Decisions will be made by schools, colleges of further education and third level institutions on an individual basis depending on the circumstances and conditions in their area.

WATER

Irish Water has 'severe concerns' about Dublin's water supply.

It says demand went up by 10 percent over the last few days, meaning an extra 60 million litres was used every 24 hours.

There are 10-thousand premises without water right now and over 120-thousand with restricted supplies.
