The CEO of the FAI has revealed Martin O'Neill will sign a multi-year deal to stay on as Republic of Ireland Manager next week.

Doubt was cast over O'Neill's future in the role over the past fortnight as he put himself forward for the vacant managerial post at Stoke City.

The Derry man eventually rejected the Potters, with the role going to Paul Lambert in the end.

As the Irish public were well aware the 64 year old had yet to sign a contract with the FAI to guarantee his intentions going forward.

Instead, John Delaney and Co. were reliant on a verbal agreement in place since October.

Delaney spoke today about the situation:

"Martin O'Neill came in last night. He's obviously agreed terms with the association. His representatives will be in Dublin on Monday, and prior to the nations league draw on Wednesday, he will sign a contract for the next number of years."

"Martin has always been very open with the association as to who's approached him. He's had many approaches and he will outline that next week when he meets the media. He's always shown that he wants to manage the Republic of Ireland."

"What happened last October was he verbally agreed to stay. The Denmark game was a blow to lose here at home in the manner in which we did. He took some time out to consider that before he reconfirmed that he would stay. Given the circumstances of the night and given the fact that we don't have a match until march - that's understandable."

Delaney also confirmed that compensation would have been due to the FAI should O'Neill have made the switch to Stoke City.

O'Neill gave this update on his status as Republic of Ireland boss last night:
